Shoes To Rock In

There’s something to be said about shoes that you can really rock it in! I’ve always been a bit of a shoe fanatic – (possible understatement) – but workout shoes were never a huge focus for me. I like them, they serve a purpose, but the look is hit or miss for me. That all changed for me recently. Let me take a quick step back before I dive into my new fave workout shoes.

A few months back I shared 2 pairs of beautiful shoes by SAS Shoes. If you’re new to SAS Shoes, definitely take a look! They have a wide selection of beautifully designed shoes that not only look fantastic but are very comfortable. If you want to read my post about their gorgeous silver flats click HERE, and for my fave sandals click HERE! I traveled with both pairs – using them in the Bay Area all the way to London. So comfy and stylish!

Now let’s dive into these amazing athletic shoes! Meet the TEMPO – my new workout BFF. These shoes have been expertly designed to be breathable, comfortable, durable, and give you the support needed to hit your workouts hard! Oh – and they look cute too! Yes, there are a ton of flashy shoes out there, but these strike my fancy because of how sleek they are! I love the look AND the feel – which is so important! The Tempo is luxuriously handcrafted in leather, mesh, and other performance materials to help you stay active in both comfort and style. Basically – I’m smitten!

Something I’m more aware of than ever is how my feet feel after walking (or chasing kids) all day. Even in some flats, if they aren’t made well, my right foot really hurts. Maybe it’s #momlife catching up with me…maybe it’s something else. I will say that wearing shoes with proper support, like the TEMPO, makes a huge difference!

As mentioned above – I love how sleek the design of these shoes are in black. They also come in white/silver (which I definitely want), and blue/turquoise which are super fun and perfect for those who like a brighter shoe. They fit pretty true to size in my opinion. There are times when I’m between a 6.5 and 7 (depending on the brand) and found the 7 to fit perfectly. Given the three color selections, there’s something for everyone, yet they all have the same amazing support!

SAS Shoes makes other active shoes in a variety of styles – which you can see by clicking HERE. For your Spring and Summer needs – I would highly recommend checking out all of their super cute sandals. Snagging yourself some TEMPO shoes and sandals will make your feet happy and prepare you for some active fun in the heat! I LOVE their selection and the fact that I don’t have to compromise my comfort for style!

Something I’ve been particularly excited to share is that the SAS Shoes new TEMPO is inspired by the performance shoes that they created and are producing for the US troops! They are the first activewear shoes being given to troops so that they have properly made footwear for working out. We all know that troops train and workout hard – and they deserve shoes that really take care of and support their feet. SAS Shoes makes these active shoes (and other amazing styles) for women and men. My grandfather, great uncle, sister in law and brother in law all served – so knowing why these shoes were designed makes me really happy!

To learn more about the TEMPO – click HERE! You’ll see the other colors, and can even order your own! I hope you enjoy these as much as I do – and don’t forget to take a look at their full selection! They makes boots, booties, sandals, flats, heels, and more – so take a browse and enjoy! I can’t wait to pick some transitional footwear for my hubby (I love the Weekender) now that Spring has Sprung! Even the men’s selection is great! 🙂 I have sandals, flats and now the new TEMPO – so if you have any questions about their shoes – please don’t hesitate to comment with questions. I’m happy to help if I can! Big thanks to SAS Shoes for the complimentary shoes! I have to say – I absolutely love writing about things I truly love! Happy Spring everyone! xo

I Don’t Sweat – I Sparkle!

I don’t sweat – I sparkle!!! Ok…that may not be true…I do sweat (especially during my cool down) but I like to think of it as sparkling, because I make the rules in my world! 😉 To get real, we’re a family that believes in being healthy and staying fit. Our kiddos know that we workout, and they like to join in when we get our sweat on at home (case and point the photos in this post). Working out at home is a great way to set a good example for kiddos so they see active adults who are teaching by doing.

Being a busy #momboss, I tend to use my athletic gear for workouts as well as running errands and chasing my kids! That means my gear needs to be comfortable and look cute so I don’t feel frumpy. Workout gear needs to be functional – because it is part of my everyday “uniform” as I knock things off of my To-Do list. Keep scrolling for more pics of my latest gear – and details on how you can snag your own curated box that you get to try on IN YOUR HOME! What?!?

Let me introduce you to Wantable – the new way I get my fitness gear that is expertly curated and uniquely ME! I’m busy (aren’t we all though) and I want items in my wardrobe that I love and that will help me to look and feel good with minimal effort. Wantable is a subscription box that comes to your door with items that are specifically pulled together by a stylist for YOU! You answer some style questions and preferences and leave it to the stylist to pull together your box. You even have the option to scroll through a stream of options and request specific items.

My husband and I both got a box of fitness gear, and you can see our actual boxes in the image above and below. They came beautifully packaged and ready to try on! They also included a prepaid shipping envelop in case there were items we wanted to send back.

Before I go on, I want to let you in on something special. Wantable, in partnership with The Newsette, is offering my awesome readers (that means YOU 🙂 ) 50% off of the style fee by clicking HERE! That means you get to try out 7 curated items (fashion and/or fitness) for $10! Keep scrolling for more details!

When you take the style quiz, you click on things you love, like and dislike – AND – you’ll never receive anything that you marked as dislike. For example, I am not a shorts person. I want to like them, and even occasionally purchase cute ones, but I never end up wearing them! Being true to myself and my personal style, I made sure to “dislike” shorts so that the stylist will never include shorts in my box (unless I change my preferences). I completed the style quiz, and you can actually see a screenshot of some of my preferences above.

My husband is NOT a shopper – so he did the style quiz and let the stylist do all the heavy lifting. That was a BIG win for him! The box arrived, he tried on his items, picked the ones he liked, and put the rest in the prepaid shipping envelop for a quick return. Easy peasy!

I also want to note that the stylist picked some shorts out for him that he was convinced he wasn’t going to like – but ended up LOVING! He tried them on and knew he would get a lot of use out of them. He obviously kept them and used them in our workout (see photo at the top of the post). To me, that is a win because he ended up loving something he would have never picked out for himself. Great job stylists!

Personally, I love to shop, but my time is limited and precious. I took the style quiz and then scrolled through to request specific items that I wanted to try out in person. The entire outfit above (leggings, tank and sports bra) were all things I requested – and decided to keep! The win for me, as someone who loves to shop, is the convenience of it all. I picked a couple of things I knew I wanted to try, the stylist was the expert who pulled together a couple of other items based on knowing my preferences, and everything was sent to my home! No leg work for this busy lady!

I kept 4 items from my box and sent back 3 in the mail. No dealing with driving to the store, keeping my receipts, waiting in lines, etc. Not to mention I got to try it all on from the comfort of my own home – before actually buying anything!

If you’re a busy person who is looking for more balance and a way to simplify some things on your list – read on. If you are someone who doesn’t like to shop, or does all of the shopping for your family (I do ALL the shopping for my hubby as well), Wantable is for you!

My husband is the king of wearing his workout gear until it’s beyond done – and it’s because he hates shopping! It’s so nice to have some help getting him the gear he needs, delivered to our door, so he can get his sweat on! And it gives him more of a variety because they bring new items to the table that he wouldn’t have picked for himself. WIN!

I should also note that Wantable is NOT just workout gear! They have carefully curated apparel and accessories that range from jackets to jeans to dresses and bags! I’ve only tried the workout gear, but I can’t wait to give the apparel and accessories a try next! I’m looking forward to enhancing my wardrobe with some essentials while trying some fresh finds that the stylists will handpick and send my way! I’ll be sure to report back on that experience!

As mentioned at the top of this post – you can take advantage of an exclusive offer by Wantable and The Newsette. They are offering my readers a chance to receive a box of carefully curated pieces delivered to your door for $10! That’s 50% off of the styling fee! You get to try before you buy – and if you keep 5 or more items, you’ll save 20% off your total! To check out this exclusive deal – and take the style quiz – click HERE! I hope you give it a try! It’s a great chance to have a stylist at your disposal for only $10! Enjoy and please let me know how it goes! Muah!

HUM with Me

Even #bossladies Need a Little Help

It’s no secret that I’m a busy woman these days. It’s very important to me to the best #bosslady I can be in all areas of my life. That being said – it’s hard to stay on top of it all…sometimes this juggler drops a ball! 😉 Having toddlers that are always on the move, dogs that need lots of love and attention, an ever expanding to do list to keep our household going, and managing Mommylexi.com can be tricky! I love everything I’m doing and wouldn’t change a thing, however, I do need to make time for myself and my own health goals. I’m a better mommy and a better spouse when I care for myself as well.

I’ve partnered with HUM Nutrition and The Newsette to bring you this post and to share something that has really helped me on my quest for mommy sanity. All opinions expressed in this post are my own, so keep scrolling to learn why I’m feeling so much better these days! 🙂

What is HUM Nutrition?

I’m very cautious about what goes into my body – and you should be too! Let me be blunt…all supplements are NOT created equal. I’ve done a lot of research over the years to find supplements for me and my family – and it has been tough to find ones I like. This busy #bosslady is very happy to have found HUM!

HUM Nutrition is an all-natural line of supplements, powders and gummies that are sustainably sourced, made in the USA, non-GMO and free of soy, gluten, artificial colors, and preservatives, many are organic and vegan. That list makes me SO ridiculously happy! If you could see me right now, you would laugh at the “happy dance” I’m doing to my new guilty pleasure song, Rewrite the Stars…hehehe! That is how happy I am to have found supplements that aren’t junky!

Their mission is to turn the beauty routine inside out and have inner-health as the starting point of every beauty/self-care routine with a focus on prevention and long-term care, not just damage control and covering up. Since we’re all so busy (and yes – I know you are so don’t deny it), isn’t it nice that this is their mission and we can reap the benefits?

They aim to demystify vitamins by making them chic and approachable, and by providing personalized product recommendations from their Registered Dietitians (RD).  The RD is also available to answer questions and for ongoing support via your free account. Yup…they provide resources which is a huge WIN! If you would like to figure out which supplement is best for you – take this 3 minute evaluation quiz

They have also been generous enough to give my readers 20% off their first online order by using the code: NEWSETTE

Flatter Me

I’ve been using Flatter Me – which is a supplement that supports healthy digestion, and in turn, a flatter stomach. I honestly don’t know anyone who would say no to that! We’re all busy, and we all have different goals, but I personally like having some extra help where I can. Not all foods agree with me (I know I’m not alone) and sometimes I need help with my digestion. Studies have linked digestive enzyme blends (like Flatter Me) with easing indigestion and reducing bloat. Yup, I said it! I get bloated and I want that icky feeling GONE from my life!

To combat digestion issues like bloat, I take a dose after my two largest meals (for me that’s lunch and dinner) and it helps a lot! More regularity and a happy flatter (bloat free) tummy!

It’s super easy and is particularly helpful if you’re trying to eat healthier and get yourself on track. I’ve been pairing Flatter Me with healthy foods like my Giant Fruit Salad! I feel lighter and happier – which for me comes from better digestion.

What Else do They Offer?

If you’re looking for other effective supplements, check out the HUM Product Page for their offerings. Everyone has health goals, and I personally like that their products have been proven and are backed by clinical results. Bottom line, if you want Killer Nails (I do!) – better hair (I do!) – better digestion (I do!) or you have other health goals, it’s worth taking a look. Isn’t it nice to have a little extra support when you need it???

Taking the Next Step

As mentioned above, HUM has been generous enough to give my readers 20% off their first online order by using the code: NEWSETTE – so now is a great time to give them a test drive!

Their product selection has something for everyone – so give the list a look! Personally, I want to try out Turn Back Time and plan to order that as my next HUM purchase! I bet you can guess what it does for your skin! I’ve had great luck with Flatter Me, so I’m excited to try something else that will help me up my #bosslady game!

I hope this was helpful and that my research and quest for fantastic supplements will save you some time! Enjoy the 20% off and let me know which supplements you try out! 🙂

Working Out Is Hard To Do

Can we talk about how exhausting it is to be a woman these days..? Is it just me? The last 10 days have been a mixed bag of emotions. I’ve felt incredibly energetic and proud of my accomplishments. I’ve felt so tired that all I want to do is stay in bed and let the kids watch cartoons next to me, just so I can sleep (unfortunately that did not happen). I’ve felt motivated and ready to tackle anything that comes my way, and yet the next day the feeling switches to overextended because my to do list is way too long. Why does the list keep growing..? I’m knocking things off the list and for every one thing I get done, three more pop up! What’s happening?

Nobody tells you that being a mom really means being a million different things at once. “Mom” actually stands for boo boo kisser, storyteller, juggler, chef, maid, master lego builder, chauffeur, broken toy fixer, water cup holder, booger wiper, personal shopper, therapist, stylist, snack provider, snuggle machine and unconditional love giver. I am most definitely missing a few others on the list, but I’m too tired to care! Ha! 😉

The truth is, I love all the job titles that fall under being “mommy.” Finding some me time in there can be tough though. Truthfully, the only thing I wish I had more of is consistent energy. Man oh man, how I wish I was one of those people who jumped out of bed in the morning and was ready to take on the world (and that growing to do list). Instead, it takes some serious motivation (and coffee) to get me up. Instead of going to bed early (which I tell myself to do each and every day), I stay up and check email, pack lunches, do laundry and dishes, and then watch a show that makes me laugh but does not have Mickey Mouse in it.

Finding ways to stay motivated can be a challenge. My motivation is a mix of things. I want to be healthy, get stronger, feel better, and have that little bit of me time to be a the best mom that I can be. I find that making a little time for myself helps me to do all of those things. The kind of me time I’m talking about is working out. Yes, I would love a spa day or to sit and read a book uninterrupted. All of those things sound lovely and are included on my list of things I want to find time for. That being said, the little bit of me time that I carve out is for the gym. Because I want to be healthy, get stronger and feel better, I prioritize the gym. It is the way I keep my sanity – which makes me a better person and mommy.

I worked out at home for the last 4 years because Gabriel and Sofia were still little and I wanted to be home with them. We created a home gym in our garage and it worked great for me. I worked out during naps which was my window for a sweat session and shower. Haha! Now that Gabriel is in preschool, and Sofia is just starting, I actually have days where I can go to the gym. I LOVE it! I’m lifting weights and learning how to get stronger each time. It is amazing how much change I’m seeing in my body – and how much better I feel about myself. My back pain is gone and I feel so much more comfortable in my own skin. Yes, I’m still tired and lack motivation some days. But because I know how fantastic I’ll feel when I’m done, I push even harder to get up and go. It is worth it and I only hope that every woman out there takes a little time to do what they need to feel better. That “me” time is important and should be a priority.

What is your motivation? A reunion, wedding or other upcoming event? Long term fitness goals around overall health and wellness? The satisfaction of more energy and feeling good in your own skin? Whatever it is, I hope you find it and hang on to it!

Being that it was just Thanksgiving and we all most likely overindulged, I put together some of my current fave fitness items. This time of the year can be really challenging. People get busy with holiday parties, eating delicious treats, baking, and celebrating a little too much. To help balance things out a bit – and maybe even throw some motivation your way – take a look at the items below. Maybe you’ll find something you love and can use in your next workout. Personally, I plan to do some toddler yoga and other family friendly workouts with my kids to stay active during the holidays. The gym will still be a priority – but bringing a little bit of family fitness into the mix is a fun way to get everyone involved.

Have a happy and healthy holiday season everyone! xoxo

Post Baby Style & Fitness

Lets face it – mommy style sucks for the first couple of months (or more) after pushing out a baby. Yes, there are cute options out there. That doesn’t really matter when all you want to do is curl up and cry in your maternity clothes since they are the only thing that actually fits.

Like most moms out there, I struggled with my postpartum body. I wasn’t happy about the weight gain and was desperate to get rid of it. When you’re pregnant, the bump and weight gain don’t matter as much (as long as you’re being healthy and listening to your doctor).

For many, myself included, I loved accentuating my pregnant belly with tight tops and little belts. As soon as that baby came out, I no longer looked pregnant, I looked fat. While I was pregnant with my first, not one person told me the big secret – that you still look pregnant after giving birth! No, you don’t look full term anymore – but yes – you still have a belly with added fat, fluids and all that fun stuff to get rid of. Fun times! 😉 If I’m the first person to tell you that – I’m both sorry – and happy that you now know! Better to have a heads up in my opinion! lol!

For me, the first 4 months were the hardest. What I learned was to be patient with myself and to take on each day as an opportunity to make great decisions for my body and my baby.

At 6 weeks I got the ok from my OBGYN to start exercising. I was SO excited but also crazy exhausted. Having a newborn meant round the clock feedings, little sleep, and very little time and energy to even shower. My exercise at that point was nice long walks with the stroller between feedings and naps. It wasn’t major cardio, but it felt good and was the right way for me to get back into the swing of things.

At 10 weeks I was ready to really jump start my body. These are some tips to get you back into shape 🙂

  • Get outside! Walk, hike, jog!
  • Find a short but effective workout to get your blood pumping. After I had my son, my go to was T25! After my daughter, it was Jillian Michaels Bodyshred. Both sets are a series of DVDs and each workout is only 25 – 30 min long. BIG win when you don’t have a lot of time between naps, nursing, laundry, etc.
  • Sign up for mommy bootcamp. Bring your baby with you, meet other moms, and push yourself to work out.
  • Find a post baby DVD to help tighten your belly. My go to is Tracy Anderson Method: Post – Pregnancy Workout.
  • Get workout pants that make you feel confident. My go to workout capris are the Spanx Convertible Knee Pant. After both pregnancies, they really helped me feel less self conscious when I was working out.
  • Interval training. I ran on a treadmill and dropped weight pretty quickly using interval training. You can look up how to use interval training on a treadmill for more information. It burned fat fast and I felt great!
  • Protein and LOTS of water are key. I don’t eat meat, but I do eat eggs and protein shakes which have been great since both as easy to prepare when in a hurry – which lets face it – is often with a new baby! My go to is Jay Robb Pina Colada Whey Protein.

Hope this helps! I know how hard it is to trim down post baby. You can do it – don’t give up! 🙂 xoxo

Prenatal Yoga

Prenatal yoga is a wonderful way to stay in shape, keep stress down, and prepare for childbirth. Lets be real…pregnancy is the most amazing experience in the world and kind of a pain all at once. To keep me on my toes – my pregnancy with my son was completely different than with my daughter. But I truly loved being pregnant with both my children 🙂 Feeling that little life kick inside me, the hiccups tickling my insides, the way my baby grew each week. On the flip-side, there were times when I was overtired, had lower back pain, headaches, swollen feat, cravings, and nausea.

Yoga helped me cope with the normal aches and pains of pregnancy. You are not alone – those of us who have carried a child know that it can be challenging at times – to say the least! Yoga also helped me learn breathing techniques and various positions for childbirth that I didn’t know existed. As your hips shift, you should consider how stretching may help you stay limber and more centered.

There are many options to help you practice yoga throughout your pregnancy:

  • Yoga DVDs
  • Yoga on YouTube
  • Yoga OnDemand
  • Yoga Studios
  • Private Yoga Lessons

If you’re new to yoga, start slow. I never did yoga before I was pregnant. I always preferred faster paced workouts like Pilates, Kickboxing, and circuit training. I decided to use a yoga DVD to get started – and I really enjoyed it! I was still working full time during both pregnancies, so going to a yoga studio was not very convenient with my home and work schedule. That made the yoga DVDs a favorite for me. Not to mention – I could do yoga in my living room in sweats and crazy messy hair – without feeling judged 😉
There are some fantastic yoga DVDs online that are affordable and easy to follow. Look into each option and find the right one for you. The bonus – moms love to write reviews! I read a ton of reviews before investing in a yoga DVD – and it was based on reading the reviews and experiences of other moms! BIG help!

Enjoy the process, take a little time to stretch and breath deep each day, and remember that a healthy mommy is important too 🙂

Namaste lovelies!

xoxo
